The Technology Behind the Metaverse

The Technology Behind the Metaverse

As you know, the metaverse has not come out of nowhere. Behind this simple word there are thousands of ideas and mechanisms to make everything work perfectly. Some of these technologies have been in development for decades, while others are practically new.

Like any computer system, we need to use a translator to understand what is going on between thousands and thousands of lines of code that flow incessantly across the screen. In this article, we are going to be the translators. We are going to explain in the simplest way possible how the  metaverse and what technology makes it all possible.

How blockchain works

To get a good understanding of how the blockchain, you need to use your imagination a little. Let’s assume that you make a transaction with your bank, and it fills in all the necessary data (date, issuer, recipient, etc.). Obviously it is necessary for the bank to have an employee to do all this paperwork, review it and guard it. Well, the  blockchain is a chain of blocks that contains information on every transaction that is made, and all of this automatically.

Each block represents a transaction that has been made, and has a unique code so that other users can check the veracity of the information. This code is created based on existing information (for example, if the transaction was made in May, the code will start with “T4Y”) and is connected to the previous and next block.

Consequently, if someone tries to change the block information, its code will change (for example, instead of May “T4Y”, if someone changes it to July, the code will now start with “T8J”). As mentioned before, the string is connected to the previous and next block. Therefore, as in this case, if the code changes, the chain automatically breaks and invalidates the change produced.

Blockchain security

In this way, the blockchain protects users from potential hacks and is not alterable by anyone (in other words, all users are on equal footing). Banks use a centralized system where they are the ones who decide how and when things are done. In contrast, thanks to blockchain, no one is above anyone else, ensuring equality among all participants.

What is the difference between virtual reality and augmented reality ?

The Augmented reality (AR), as the word says, is an enhancement of our reality, an augmentation. If we only see a chair, with augmented reality we can see a digital monkey sitting on it, for example. The great pioneers of augmented reality have been the creators of  Pokémon Go. Simply put, the creators of this game have added.  virtual elements to our reality. Therefore, we can say that augmented reality is a mix between the real and the digital.

What is virtual reality

Virtual reality (VR), on the other hand, is not a mixture of real and digital elements. It is an entirely digital world, without any elements of reality. For example, if you download a game on virtual reality glasses, you will only see digital elements of the game itself, at no time will you be able to see real-life things like the room where you are playing or your own hands.

The best example of augmented reality (AR) we have today are the most important digital glasses. While no company has managed to make a convincing product to date, it is likely that they will do so very soon. The digital glasses would work like regular glasses (you can see everything around you) and would also add digital elements (for example, you could see the temperature or the time with numbers displayed on the glass of your glasses).

And undoubtedly the best example of virtual reality (VR) are the virtual reality glasses themselves. They immerse you in a completely digital reality, thus losing contact with the real world. It is a completely tailor-made universe, created centimeter by centimeter to satisfy the user.

With these three technologies, the metaverse will be built little by little, until we achieve a digital universe that helps us in our daily lives and improves our lives (which, after all, is the only reason why we continue to work unceasingly with an uncommon enthusiasm and desire).
