Why enter the metaverse?
After explaining what the Metaverse is, in this article we present the main reasons why you should enter this new world of Virtual Reality: from the possibility of holding business meetings to visiting your favorite clothing store without leaving home.
Did you see Space Jam 2? There it’s called Serviverse and it’s a set of servers and other computer equipment where social networks and remote work systems work.
When Lebron James tries to leave the building, obfuscated by the bad proposal made to him, his son enters a floor where the company’s data center is located.
Suddenly they both find themselves in a parallel universe where the movie takes place, moving from fictional to “real” places like the basketball court, which is virtual, and there the cartoons are mixed with the real-life characters.
By putting on virtual reality goggles, you would be entering the Metaverse, -like Lebron in the data center-, in first person, experiencing with your own eyes the site you decide to visit.
Metaverse and teleworking
You may want to be at home and telecommute. Then using the glasses you can go to your company’s virtual building and there enter a boardroom where you will see your colleagues in their avatars as you do in real life.
In this meeting you will see how the avatars move, hear them speak, and you can even make gestures with your hands and body to interact while presenting your slides on the screen.
When the work day is over, you could invite your friends to meet you in a virtual café, sit around a table and have a cup of your favorite drink (in its virtual version).
Each could be lying in bed, at home, miles away and still come together in a common place and have a lively conversation.
Of course, you will be living it in three dimensions in a fun, virtual place, replacing your computer screen and the view on your bedroom wall as we do now.
This achieves an effect of disconnection from the day-to-day life we have lived during confinement or that of those who have been teleworking for months or years.
Shopping in the Metaverse
Within this parallel space you will be able to find clothing stores to buy with cryptocurrencies a complete outfit for your avatar, which you could even sell as used in your virtual electronic store a few days later.
Your next vacation, in the Metaverse
You could also go on a “vacation” to visit a remote location with a ticket that gives you access to another virtual space where you can experience the destination with your own glasses, thanks to a 360º recording that was made days before there.
All this has happened without you moving from your bed.
You can then develop an experience just like real life in terms of sites, meetings, experiences, concerts, buying and selling, using money, sharing with others, only you are in a world created on a computer.
You could permanently enjoy computer-created experiences in the Metaverse, such as working, seeing friends, participating in activities, attending concerts and sporting events, except those that necessarily require human presence or contact.
NFT and Metaverse
It is also possible to buy goods such as houses, furniture, decoration, art, gambling, clothes, cars, boats, motorcycles and anything else you can imagine using cryptocurrencies.
This way you can invest in different assets that you can then sell at a better price or auction with Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFT) or Token-No-Fungible (Non-Fungible Unit of Value) cryptocurrency equivalents.
The price of these items is defined in relation to their rarity, usefulness and tangibility, as well as the length of time they can be owned, either long or short term, just as in the real world.
Social networks also come into play
Of course, social networking activities carry over into the Metaverse, where you can find your friends, connect with someone from your childhood who you haven’t seen for years, and engage in real conversations between avatars or with messages .
As we have seen, you can create a parallel personal, work and entertainment life where the artist of your choice could be presented in an avatar, as has happened in Fortnite.
In 2020 rapper Travis Scott performed there with twelve million attendees and a year earlier DJ Marshmellow performed there with ten million.
All players were able to enjoy their artist, in an avatar, singing exclusively in the middle of the game, in a room set up for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks to the confinement, different virtual tools for trade fairs, business rounds, concerts, networking areas and gamification applied to teamwork have become popular.
This is an important integration between the real world and the Internet, bringing people together, opening doors for those who do not have the resources or mobility or visas to cross borders and visit other places. Both in leisure and in the work environment, in which Two Reality we are already working.
There is so much more to tell about the Metaverse, being such a vast and interconnected space!
